![]() If you are using Denso or NGK, I believe all of them are plated. this was mentioned on multiple DIY and spark plug thread by aviation engineer, etc. If the plugs are plated, then you do not need anti-seize. Anti-seize compound can act as a lubricant altering torque values up to 20 percent, increasing the risk of spark plug thread breakage. There are multiple engineers here that will vouch for need of anti-seize on dis-metal contact ** insert correct term**. NGK tech support has received a number of tech calls from installers who have over-tightened spark plugs because of the use of anti-seize. NGK is a business they are just tryin to prevent lawsuits by not recommending anti-seize as wrench monkey will 1) apply too much anti-seize, 2) over-tighten 3) bread the plug/strip- thread due to combination of 1-2# and then turn around and try to blame in on NGK for recommending to put on anti-seize on their directions. I put a nice thin coat of anti-seize on my threads and tighten to torque spec and never looked back. They also state "over-tighten" most ppl here knows the torque specs, its all over the DIY. If you look around the forum you will see pictures of used plugs from GTI which have blackened/dull on the initial 3-4 thread leads me to believe that this "zinc coating" is not 100% effective. It only fires up when the power goes out and the longest it has ever run was close to 24 hours, usually it is more like 6-8 hours at a time.īut I never regret spending a very nominal amount of money on preventive maintenance so I might as well change the plugs prior to this winter. On the bottom you see the disclaimer for blackened/dull threads which would require anti-seize. I can look at the run time meter on the generator and I'm sure it is nowhere near 400 hours yet but it is approaching the four year mark. ![]() I changed the oil & filter and cleaned the air filter about a year and a half ago. The reason for this is that NGK plugs are made with a nickel alloy that is softer than steel. The house & generator is only four years old and I assume the generator was never serviced. The short answer is yes, NGK spark plugs do need anti-seize. It is completely unnecessary and can be detrimental.' 5 Things You Should Know About Spark Plugs - NGK Spark Plugs The five things you should know about spark plugs include information on anti-seize, corona stain, gapping fine wire, torque and copper spark plugs. I will have been in this house for three years in September. NGK tech support has received a number of tech calls from installers who have over-tightened spark plugs because of the use of anti-seize. In this regard, NGK G-Power spark plugs should be installed dry without using an anti-seize spray. Do not use anti-seize or lubricant on NGK spark plugs. Do not use anti-seize or lubricant on NGK spark plugs. Anti-seize can act as a lubricant, altering torque values up to 20 percent, increasing the risk of spark plug thread breakage and/or metal shell stretch. Anti-seize compound can act as a lubricant altering torque values up to 20 percent, increasing the risk of spark plug thread. NGK spark plugs are installed at the factory dry, without lubrication or anti-seize. NGK tech support has received a number of tech calls from installers who have over-tightened spark plugs because of the use of anti-seize. The Service Schedule calls for "clean, check gap, replace spark plugs" every 4 years or 400 hours of operation. NGK spark plugs are installed at the factory dry, without the use of anti-seize. I just put Ngk Ruthenium in our Nissan quest van and they look to be a good plug. The Ruthenium are supposed to be better than Iridium, so I would give those a try. ![]() I do have a good quality digital torque wrench to torque the plugs. I have pulled Ngk Laser iridium, and Denso long life iridium with 100k+ miles and still in decent condition. They will come out clean when you replace them again. There are no instructions on the packaging that mention anti-seize compound but it sounds like I won't need it. NGK does not require anti-seize on any of their spark plugs, so dont use it. I bought a set of Champion RC12YC plugs at my local NAPA store. ![]()
